Fairy Metal Thunder Read-Along, Part 2!

I'm excited to be participating in the Fairy Metal Thunder Read-Along, second part found here:

http://paranormalbookreviews-kelly.blogspot.com/2012/07/fairy-metal-thunder-read-alongscavenger_13.html

Since I've already read the book, I'm hoping (and sort of failing!) to keep up with the hunt. Even chasing around a couple of kids, I'll hopefully be able to post. So long as I get things done early. :)

Unfortunately I don't have pictures this time, since I'm so far behind!  But here goes...

Here are my answers to the second batch of questions:

1. Unfairly grounded by his parents, Jason decides to lie to them so he can go to the audition in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, not only does the audition end poorly but his parents discover his lie and things go downhill from there. Tell us the most outrageous lie you've ever been caught in. Bonus points if you can provide pictorial proof. Reenactments eagerly accepted.
There was a time I was at camp, and one of the counselors at camp was dating a girl from my home town.  Of course, I didn't know they were dating... so when he mentioned her name I said "Oh, that's my brother's girlfriend." ...of course, it was a lie.  I think I threw him for a loop.  He seemed to be caught off guard by me saying it, and he started to ask me all sorts of questions about how their relationship.  Well, once I started, I couldn't stop!  So I made up stuff.  I was young and stupid.

When I got home, the girl came up to me with a smirk on her face, and said "so, I'm your brother's girlfriend, huh?" I hope that she got a good laugh out of it.  I was fairly mortified.

 2. In Faerie, Aoide is summoned to see the Faerie Queen. Have you ever met someone important like the Faerie Queen? Someone famous? Tell us the story behind how it happened. Once again, pictures are a plus!
I lead a relatively boring life.  I went to high school with John Lassater (of Pixar)'s Stepson, and did drama with him in school.  John was always such a sweetheart, and his wife Nancy remembered my name for years after school--even though I wasn't particularly close with her son.  My very best girlfriend went on to work at Pixar, so there's something of a claim to fame there?

I met Lucy Lawless in Disneyland once.  Oh, and I think that Dave Foley thought I was yelling for him once in California Adventure, even though I was calling for my daughter.  He turned around and looked at me expectantly, and I had to tell him I was calling for my little girl.  I'm sure my face was bright red.

 3. Caught lying to his father about his non-existent job at the car wash, Jason has now found gainful employment at Buddy McSlawburger's - where he's forced to wear "the funny hat" as part of his uniform. What's the worst job you've ever had? Did it involve a particularly noxious uniform? Tell us about it - in riveting, full-color detail!
There's an establishment where the coffee servants wear green aprons.  I worked there.  I love serving coffee, but I hate scrubbing toilets.  So that job didn't last!  Other than that, I've never worked somewhere with a uniform.  At least, not an obnoxious one!

 4. In an effort to regain their stolen instruments, Aoide and Rhodia travel to the sugar swamp to hire a hunter. Wouldn't you love to live somewhere where the water is sweet and the grass is made of sugar cane? Show us a picture of you enjoying your favorite sweet treat. Or, rewrite history and tell us how your version of the sugar swamp would differ from the one in the book.
I'm a bit of a sweet junkie, to be perfectly honest.  And what's great is there's a company called "Milkmakers" that makes cookies that support lactation!  As I'm a Nursing Mama, I find their cookies to be absolutely wonderful.

I think the Sugar Swamp in the book is SO creative!  I love the way that the Fairy World seems to run on sweets, and even the vegetables are sugary!  I imagine the swamp to be a lot like the swamp from The Neverending Story, only with huge, bamboo-like sugar reeds sticking up everywhere.  The only thing I might have changed would be to make it more colorful?  In my mind it's a dreary swamp.  Now that I'm writing this, I'm not sure if the colors are mentioned specifically, but that's what I would have done.  Brighten it up, maybe?

So, I finished Fairy Metal Thunder, and I've started reading JL Bryan's book Helix.  Looking forwrard to continuing the Scavenger hunt, though!

  1. Wait, cookies that support lactation? I've never heard of those in my life. Wish I would have known about them when I had my kids.

I a serious sweet junky. I think this makes my husband the most spoiled man in the world when it comes to sweets. He's always like Hunny, I think you should make cookies. To which I reply "I just made cookies yesterday"

John Lassater and his wife sound so nice. I love when people are kind, it makes all the difference! :)

    1. P.S. some people won't leave comments because of your CAPTCHA. It's that thing that makes you put in a code at the bottom of a comment. You can find details here.

    2. Not all cookies, but these: http://www.milkmakers.com/ (there's a video that starts playing automatically when you open the link!) especially. They've got flax seed, oats and brewer's yeast in them! I'm sure that I could make my own cookies with those ingredients, but these are super yummy. Besides, who has time with a 3 month old and a 3 year old underfoot?

They're really wonderful people! I used to love to visit the house (even though I only went a couple of times) because of how kind they are. Also, seeing the Oscars with Barbie clothes on them on the mantle was hilarious. :)

I didn't even know that the CAPTCHA was on! I guess it's a default setting? Anyway, thanks for letting me know! I turned it off. :)
